In celebration of Wits University’s 100th anniversary, the Origins Centre will showcase 10 iconic specimens and artefacts in its collections. The event will be a once-a-month event with a public lecture.

The first specimen is the Anteosaurus, a type of carnivorous dinocephalian that existed 30 million years before the first Dinosaurs appeared. The skulls of two anteosaurus specimens will be on display on Saturday 19 February 09h00 to 16h00 at the Origins Centre.

The public lecture is presented by Professor Bruce Rubidge titled “Bone crushing and head butting – Anteosaurus, the fearsome predator of the Permian”.
